Sunday: We slept in super late, then did chores. sadeyedartist cleaned the shower and the bedroom. I hung some curtains, set up some computer stuff for her and tried to get a $15 digital camera working for her (as a temporary fix to the camera-less problem). She made us French toast for brunch; then we played through most of Sonic the Hedgehog. We planned out our week best we could. During dinner, we played Citadels, and she annihilated me. She tried on clothes for the next school year, while I got rid of our bottles for recycling. We both cleaned the living room. We read in Hosea together, then went to sleep. Monday: I was up at 6:15 to read, pray, and worship (with Darrell Evans). I began Ps 68, which is long and interesting in that it is a sort of procession. We went for our morning walk. had apple sauce for breakfast Went to lab; worked on CEAS modeling -- it is becoming discouraging, because I keep finding more problems with M.'s thesis. sadeyedartist was thrift shopping with friends, so I had lunch at Chipotle with the guys. For dinner, I made us meatloaf. Then, I pretty much just read for the rest of the night. Tuesday: went to gym with M. Having missed last week killed us; we couldn't get up all our reps. It didn't help that we had recently gone up on everything. I learned that M. and A. broke up. I think I worked on finding HPLC conditions. lunch with sadeyedartist Soccer game at 7:30, which we won -- I played rather aggressively, knocked one guy off his feet and was yellow-carded. (I helped him up though.) Wednesday: More worship time (with UK Vineyard) -- was reminded that worship is said to prepare a highway for God. HPLC GCF meeting at lunch -- planned the orientation BBQ We went to our CG. I don't think I had anything to say, but that was when I read all that stuff about Ps 88. I stayed up late trying to do some literature research, but I was having trouble with the VPN server. Thursday: The gym was fun as on Tuesday. More HPLC -- I ran a whole bunch of injections at the wrong UV. Grrr. also found a lot of papers on Type II PKS cyclases and aromatases -- learned a lot GCF lunch sadeyedartist made a noodle salad thing that I enjoyed a lot -- such that it made her a little mad when I ate all of it and left no leftovers for the next day. We watched a movie written by Garrison Kealer, which was ok. Friday: no HPLC today I continued reading references, only to learn that no cyclases for which there are crystal structures cyclize rings from chains still attached to the ACP. So any comparisons to our Type I PT/CT will essentially be useless. Dr. T. is turning 60 in Sunday and we got him a card. He also left this afternoon for Switzerland for something like 2 weeks. He's basically been gone all summer. I can't say I mind, although he was supposed to have talked to me about new research directions last week. lunch with Wife went to get needed haircut after 4 mo or so of licentious growing scheduled an eye appointment for Wife bought gift for Wife came home to Wife packed for marriage retreat with Wife ( marriage retreat )Tags: happenings Current Location: Remsen Hall, Johns Hopkins University Current Mood: melancholy Current Music: Pearl Jam (coworker's)

Sunday: sadeyedartist and I taught 6th grade Sunday school together for the first time. I enjoyed it, but we ran out of time to do all that we had planned. It was dear_mo's birthday, the day before, so we actually did not eat at Panera and took her out to eat at XS, their favorite (want-to-be) sushi place, instead. I cannot recall anything else. I probably watched movies and went to work.
Monday: Our synthetic meeting was sane this time. M. saved us all and did something out of the literature as opposed to any of our research. Tuesday: I performed the always dreaded diazo coupling on my precious 130 mg of pure starting material. So it has been done. The color changes and such were all as expected. Now to column.... Hindi class was ok. We learned another 10 consonants, all dentals. (No language should have so many dentals!) Wednesday: I ran the dreaded column... and let the fractions sit till tomorrow. I went to a GCF meeting. It was supposed to be CG night, but sadeyedartist could not go, and I did not feel like going alone, especially in regards to a sermon I did not hear. Thursday: spent the day running NMRs... and running into all the same problems as before... Hindi class was chaotic. You'd think that college students would know not to talk when others are asking questions of the teacher. We picked up the labials.
sadeyedartist and I went to N. and J. house for dinner... after months of planning and rescheduling. J. made spaghetti. We talked of movies, naturally. N. shared with us the weirdest film I've seen in a very long time, "Happiness of the Katakuris" or something like that. It was a Japanese musical/horror movie/ family film... with lots of claymation. I don't know how else to describe it. Friday: more NMRs; sill no meaningful results I met with D., M., and A. from GCF to pray in the morning. I also went to D.'s for dinner and took away some leftovers from the GCF meal I had missed the night before. I went to the theater with the girls to see "Corpse Bride". I did not expect to like it much at all, but it was actually really cute. Saturday: went to work; took NMRs; as expected I helped my coworker K. move into a new apartment. She bought us all dinner as a reward. I had quesadillas without queso, so I don't rightly now what they were really, but I liked them. D. also offered me more food, which I took to sadeyedartist's house to share. The three of us watched "Rain Maker", which I thought was pretty good. The two of us then worked on some wedding planning, and shared our cynicism at many of the silly traditions that we most certainly will not have in our wedding. current look: nice jeans and fancy dress shirts, sandals current chapter of Matthai: 12 current chapter of Sh'muel: 1 next film in queue: a U2 Live concert current books: Frankenstein and a biography on Martin Luther current preferred pastime: watching movies Tags: happenings Current Mood: accomplished Current Music: silence
